We were looking forward to a 3 day weekend and had plans for backpacking then changed to camping then changed to hanging out at home. The weather was just not going to cooperate. We still had a good weekend and had some unforgettable adventures. On Saturday the weather was somewhat nice so Jarom took Jacob outside for most of the morning, and I got a couple of valuable hours to myself. Later Jarom took us to dinner for my birthday (which was on Sunday). At the Olive Garden the waiter spilled lemonade all over Jarom so his dinner was free. Can't beat that even if he was a little sticky. The best part of the evening was my fabulous dessert from the cheesecake factory. It was seriously the BEST cheesecake I have ever had, and I've had lots of cheesecake. On Sunday I woke up to breakfast in my bed from my two favorite people in the world. The sun was shining. It was going to be a great birthday. We made a last minute decision to go up Little Cottonwood canyon to camp for one night after church. So we snuck out after sacrament meeting and threw all of our camping gear and food into the car. It was really pretty up there and somewhat pleasant. Just needed a jacket. Jacob loved it!! He had so much fun climbing on the rocks and throwing rocks into the creek. (yes mom, I watched him every second he was near the water.) Jarom cooked us a great dinner of chicken and rice in the dutch oven with peach cobbler for dessert. By the time it got dark Jacob was exhausted. So I took him up to the car to watch a short video before putting him to bed. Well this is where it gets exciting. On the way up to the car he grabbed my keys and started pushing buttons. I put him in his car seat and shut his door to open the front passenger door to start the DVD player and it was locked. Yes my kid was locked inside the car and had the keys in his hands. I tried for about 10 minutes to get him to push the unlock button, and he was pushing buttons like crazy and kept showing me that he was. Then he got frustrated with me and threw the keys on the floor. Well I started to panic and called for Jarom to help me figure out what to do. Luckily we were camped next to some really nice people who were driving a natural gas car so they were more than happy to take Jarom down the canyon to get a spare key. In the meantime Jacob kept looking at me like, mom why are you out there and I'm in here? He was pretty content to just roam around the car. He knows how to pull the handle from the inside but I could not get him to push the lock button right above the handles. He figured out how to turn the headlights on and honk the horn. He just laughed and laughed until it had been about 40 minutes. He started to get upset and I did my best to comfort the poor guy. Jarom finally made it back with not one but two extra keys. Thanks to our kind camping neighbors for saving us and to my parents for keeping me company on the phone so I didn't panic too much. On Monday we bought a magnetic keybox to always have an extra on the car just in case. We woke up to rain and an extra tired little boy who wouldn't go back to sleep on Monday morning. So we packed up and headed home as quickly as possible. I know this is an extra long post, but one more thing. On Monday we took Jacob to his first movie at the movie theater. We went to Horton Hears a Who at the dollar theater. He did surprisingly well. If we could have skipped the 20 minutes of previews it would have been just right. To top the weekend off Jarom wanted to try out the pool which just opened. The water was pretty warm but the air was definitely too cold!!!! I think we were out there a total of 20 minutes. Jacob is a little fish. He loves the water. It was a really great weekend.
These are the only pictures we have from our exciting weekend. I've decided I need to just stick the camera in my purse everyday just in case. Anyways, this is our neighbor's motorcycle. Jacob is fascinated with motorcycles. His head instantly perks up every time he sees one or hears one. His dad thinks we need to get one, and I am seriously considering it with gas prices being so outrageous. We shall see. They aren't a very good family car, but Jarom drives a ton for work so we would save there.
